Abby I believe the movie 'CATFISH' is a good example of a cautionary tale about meeting, socializing, and falling for people online. It is a commentary on using social media and its importance in the lives of young people today. I think whether the movie fake or not is really irrelevant...it's the message the movie delivers that is powerful and important. What do you think? |
I agree! I also think that this movie is showing how you never really know someone you meet online until you meet them in person. The profiles only show the good sides of you, or how you want to appear. You can use the internet to seem like a whole new person with a different identity, but really be someone else with a whole different personality, as shown in the movie.

I feel bad for Angela but at the same time I disagree greatly with what she did. She should't of lied so much because it didn't accomplish anything for her. In her case she should be very grateful because of how Yaniv reacted. He wasn't so hostile or rude towards her. He pitied her and felt bad but at the same time was astonished that she had lied all this time about Megan and Abby.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, you don't know someone at all until you meet them in person. Catfish is a great example of how Yaniv thought he was talking to Megan but was really talking to Angela the whole time. She sent him fake pictures and lied about what she did for a living and the fact that her daughter was painter. I think you should meet someone in person that you met online before making your relationship more serious!
ReplyDeleteI agree. "Catfish" is a great example of the dangers of online interactions. No one truly knows who they meet and associate with online. This movie also shows that this is may happen to anyone. It is so easy for anyone to fake being someone they are not. With the millions of people using Facebook as a way to meet and interact with new people, family, and friends, it is important for all who use or plan to use social media to have such examples to guide them in the safest way possible while online. It is true that it is not important if the movie is fiction or not, but if the message is received and used in everyday life.

I also greatly disagree with Angela's actions. She should be grateful for the way Nev reacted, but I don't think Nev should have reacted the way he did. Angela did not seemed that fazed by Nev's unexpected visit besides her subtle cry. I feel that he should have scolded her in some way or talked to her about how bad her actions were and that she can't do it again. Just because she deletes her old Facebook accounts, doesn't mean that she won't do it again. Personally, I do not think she learned her lesson from lying to Nev. Him continuing to be friends with Angela on Facebook showed too much leniency and should have found a way to show her that her disturbing actions have consequences of some sort.
